Snapping Shoals EMC rates among lowest in state
Snapping Shoal EMC members continue to pay less for their electricity than most other Georgians, according to a recent Georgia Public Service Commission survey.
Among 94 electric providers in Georgia, Snapping Shoals co-op has the 2nd lowest residential rates at 2,000 kWh. The average utility charges $204.65 while SSEMC charges only $159.52. The co-op’s rates are also among the lowest at other levels of the survey, being the 4th lowest at 1,500 kWh, 7th lowest at 1,000 kWh and 8th lowest at 500 kWh.
PSC residential rate surveys are done twice a year during the summer and winter. For the winter 2013 survey, residential rates in effect for the month of January from Georgia’s EMCs, government-owned utilities and Georgia Power are utilized.
The survey looks at four different electricity levels: 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh). A kilowatt-hour is the unit used to determine the amount of electric power consumed. One kilowatt-hour is the electric power required to run one 100-watt light bulb for ten hours. For more information about the survey and the PSC visit http://www.psc.state.ga.us.
